Using Internet Explorer to access SymmetrE
By using Internet Explorer to access SymmetrE, you gain casual access to your system without the need for the entire Station framework.
Connecting to SymmetrE
To connect to SymmetrE:
- Type http
://yourwebsitename/abstractdisplays/displayname in the Address bar, where:
- yourwebsitename is the address of your Web site, for example, www.honeywell.com, if connecting via the Internet, or the name of the server computer if you are connecting via an intranet.
- displayname is the name of the HMIWeb display you want to access.
- If SSL connections are enabled, replace
http://
with https://
in the Address bar.
- When the Login dialog box appears, type your user name and password and then click OK.
The display then appears.
- You can call up other displays using the same syntax as described in step 1 or using the methods described in the section Calling up a display.
Tips
- If you need to access a display on a regular basis, add it to your Favorites menu.
- For intranet connections, you can use either the
https
or http
protocol; check with your system administrator to find out which protocol to use.
- You should add yourwebsitename to the list of trusted sites in Internet Explorer.
- If using Internet Explorer 7, Honeywell recommends disabling tabbed browsing.
Calling up a display
Once you have established a connection to SymmetrE you can call up a display using:
- The System Menu display
- The Address bar in Internet Explorer.
- The Favorites menu in Internet Explorer.
To call up a display using:

The System Menu display
| Call up the System Menu display by clicking the Station System Menu toolbar button, then click the icon opposite the display you want to see.

| Type page:\\pagename
where pagename is the name or number of the display you want to call up.

Internet Explorer Favorites menu
| Choose the required display from the Favorites menu. A display is available on the Favorites menu only if you have manually added it.

Operator management
The current user can:
- Log on as a different user
- Log off and disconnect
- Change their password
To do these tasks:
- Choose Tools > Station Logon.
Acknowledging an alarm
Alarms are listed on the Alarm Summary, which provides a one-line description of each alarm.
To call up the Alarm Summary:
- Click Alarms on the System Menu display.
- Filter the Alarm Summary as required.
- Select the alarm you want to acknowledge and click the Station Alarm Acknowledge button on the toolbar.
Calling up a point detail display
You can call up a point detail display by:
- Double-clicking an associated display object
- Using the point search
To call up a point detail display using the search:
- Click the Station Point Search button on the toolbar.
- Select
Points
from the Search in list
- Type the name of the point and follow the instructions on the page.
Calling up a trend
To call up a trend:
- Click Trends on the System Menu display to see the list of trend sets.
- Click the trend you want to call up.
Requesting a report
To request a report:
- Click Reports on the System Menu display.
- Click the report you want to request.
- Click Request.
HMIWeb Browser upgrade
When a new version of the HMIWeb Browser is available, you are prompted to upgrade to the new version. To successfully complete the upgrade, you must have administrator privileges on your computer.
If the upgrade is marked as mandatory, you cannot continue to use HMIWeb Browser until the upgrade is complete.
If the upgrade is marked as recommended and optional, you can choose to delay the upgrade by clicking Remind me later. Honeywell recommends installing all updates as soon as possible.
